Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty) |
rhinoplasty « procedures « home |
Rhinoplasty is primarily performed to reshape the nose and improve its appearance. The goal of the surgery is to create better facial proportions. A patient's nose may appear too large relative to their face, or it may appear crooked, bulbous, or have a hump in the bridge. These, and many other problems, can be improved with rhinoplasty surgery.
Nasal surgery may also be performed to help the patient breathe more easily through the nose. The surgical techniques used to improve the nasal airway generally do not result in an external, cosmetic change. Frequently, nasal surgery involves both a cosmetic and functional component. Depending on the situation, health insurance may cover some or all of the costs related to airway problems. The cosmetic aspects of the surgery are not covered by insurance.
Dr. Wilke's attention to detail and meticulous technique are essential in achieving excellent results in rhinoplasty. He performs these surgeries in the on-site Edina Surgery Center. The surgery is usually performed with a light general anesthesia, in which the patient sleeps through the procedure. Patients can return home the day of surgery. An external splint is typically used for 5-7 days. Sometimes, internal splints or packing is also used, depending on the type of surgery. Most patients can return to work and light activity in one week, although contact sports must be avoided for 6 weeks.
