Breast Lift and Reduction (Mastopexy) |
mastopexy « procedures « home |
Breast lift, also called Mastopexy, is done to lift and contour the breast to correct droop that can occur from childbearing, weight change, genetics and time. Excess skin is removed and the tissues are lifted and reshaped to support the new contour. Incisions are made around the areola, and often a vertical incision is needed in the lower breast, and a breast crease incision, to allow reshaping. This does result in external scars, although they typically fade quite well with time. A breast implant can be placed at the time of a lift if added volume is desired.
Breast Reduction involves a similar procedure, although longer incisions in the inferior breast crease are usually needed. Excess breast tissue is removed in addition to lifting and contouring the breast. Insurance may cover breast reduction.
